The French building trade associations FFB/FNTP provide standardized subcontractor agreements for building projects in France free of charge online.
As with all French building contracts, these standardized subcontractor agreements are based on special, detailed and customizable contractual clauses (Conditions Particulières), which come in two variants as a short or long version and which are based in turn on general contractual clauses (Conditions Générales).
We would assess these subcontractor agreements for French building projects to be relatively balanced, without, however, being able or willing to assume any liability of whatever kind for this assessment.
Insofar as smaller-scale, short-term and uncomplicated building projects and commissions in France should be involved, the parties would have the option of resorting to these standardized subcontractor agreements at their own risk. This applies, however, only if a subcontractor agreement that has already been written and reviewed by a French attorney should not be available. Furthermore, this kind of standardized subcontractor agreement does not in any way replace experienced French legal counsel.
These subcontractor agreements of the FFB/FNTP are, however, significantly better at least than the otherwise so common practice of signing cost estimates, which contain legal regulations only in the rarest of cases, let alone any that would comply with French (mandatory) law.
It should also be pointed out that it is then imperative as a minimum that these standard agreements of the French building trade associations should be read through once completely before being signed!
